Election in Phlan Candidates

Election in Phlan Candidates

If you’re part of the Dungeons and Dragons Adventures League group on Facebook there’s a poll that will influence the Phlan Election at Winter fantasy. You must go there to vote. Here’s the text from the post

Three candidates have emerged as front-runners in Phlan’s upcoming election.

Jhessail Greycastle

Knight Commander Greycastle is a hero, but her loyalty to the Black Fists makes her vulnerable. She pledges to:
  • Establish a parliament of elected peers to govern Phlan, and serve as First Minister.
  • Reform the Black Fists and weed out corruption in its ranks.

Barrett Sokol

The youngest scion of House Sokol has gained popularity among the labor guilds. He pledges to:
  • Reinstate the mercantile Council of Ten and stand as High Councilor.
  • Create jobs reconstructing Phlan and raising the old city walls.

Colvin Doverson

Lord Doverson claims ancestry with the Royal House of Daoran. If legitimized, this would make him heir to the Cinnabar Throne. He pledges to:
  • Reinstate the monarchy and crown himself Lord Protector.
  • Renegotiate trade deals with other Moonsea ports for the benefit of Phlan’s merchants.
A vote will be held at Winter Fantasy 41 on Saturday Feb 4 at 6PM EST. The results of this poll will be weighted and added to the onsite vote to determine the winner. This poll will close at Noon EST that same day.

Election in Phlan at Winter Fantasy

Election in Phlan at Winter Fantasy

On Saturday at Winter Fantasy there will be an Election in Phlan (5:30 – 6:30). We want to hear your voice. What do you want to see in a leader? What promises would you like to see them make? What direction should Phlan be taken in the future?

One faction has stepped up to speak out. Gymbo Gyre Gearsmith is looking to throw the power of the Greater Faerun Locksmiths and Security Guild (GFLASG) behind a worth candidate to be the next Chancellor of Phlan. Here’s the GFLASG proclamation and intention.

So let us know what you think would make a great leader for Phlan and we’ll see you at Winter Fantasy.

Non-Gaming Special Events at Winter Fantasy 2017

Non-Gaming Special Events at Winter Fantasy 2017

Hello gamers. Winter Fantasy starts in less than two weeks and for those who are going to be attending there are some interesting, educational, and fun events going on outside of the gaming you can do. Every one of these events will be held in the seminar area in the main hall.

Thursday

Maze Arcana logoMaze Arcana Live Gamecast (5pm-9pm): Join the creators of Maze Arcana, Ruty Rutenberg & Satine Phoenix, and the launch of their new livestream alongside their “Peanut Gallery” cohorts — Bill Benham, Chris Lindsay, and Travis Woodall — as they set off on an epic adventure around Eberron en route to uncover the rampant reemergence of the aberrant Dragonmarks, its prophetic nature, and a new source of arcane magic that many would kill to learn and some want only to destroy. With the moniker of “Peanut Gallery” they might not even make it to the storyline…

Friday

Hearlds Guild logoHeralds Guild of DM’s Member Meeting (5pm-6pm): Come join us for what exciting plans the Heralds Guild has in store for 2017 and beyond. We will also be announcing our DM’s that have been voted into Level 4 status by their peers, our DM of the Year award, and more. Finish your afternoon game, grab some food, and bring it back for a fun hour of watching Dave can company squirm up on stage.

Saturday

Phlan logoElection in Phlan (5:30pm – 6:30pm): Come listen to those characters vying for election to the position of Chancellor of Phlan and cast your vote for the NPC you think will be the best new leader of Phlan. Those with the proper certificate from the Phlan Trilogy need to register their intentions to run for Chancellor of Phlan. You will need to do this at HQ no later than Noon on Saturday. The first 30 minutes of this event will be opening statements from candidates vying for election. After this anyone is free to speak for any of the three candidates for the leader of Phlan. An open vote will follow with all present. There are two ways to vote.

  • If you have played in the PHLAN 1-1 to 1-3 trilogy with any character you may cast a vote directly.
  • If you have not played but are physically present you may cast your vote via someone who has by standing with them when the vote is called.

Slot 6, 8 & 10

Charity Raffle (Slot 6, 8 & 10): We will also be holding a charity raffle onsite only for exclusive DDAO tickets in Slot 6, 8, and 10. Basically you buy a raffle ticket, and at the start of each slot we draw one and that person’s normal ticket magically becomes a ticket to one of the DDAO events.

All proceeds benefit The American Cancer Society in honor of Jamie Tachiyama.

If you’d like to stay in touch you can register for our mailing list & news letter here. We’ll see you in less that two weeks at Winter Fantasy for all kinds of great games, gatherings of old friends and new, and as much fun as we pack into a long weekend.

A Shadow Over Winter Fantasy

A Shadow Over Winter Fantasy

Most of you go to Winter Fantasy to play D&D AL. Unfortunately a lot of those tickets are already sold out, but there is a shadow that you can still game under, a shadow covering a godless world of fire & blood.

Robert J. Schwalb and his team of GMs are revealing the World of Fire and Blood! The setting of Godless, a new world for Shadow of the Demon Lord. They have a three part adventure series running at the show that helps players create characters which will attempt to survive the horrors of a demon-infested post-apocalyptic world.

They have Part 1 running on Thursday, Part 2 on Friday, and Part 3 on Saturday. Each morning and afternoon a 2nd and 3rd table will be available to catchup previous days if needed.

Here’s a short description of the adventures:

Part 1: In a Pig’s Eye (Starting) Capture by a degenerate mutant and held beneath a crumbling city, the characters must come together to find a way to escape this subterranean hellscape.

Part 2: Dancing in the Ruins (Novice) The characters must solve the mystery of the Party King and the dark secret contained in his bizarre flotilla.

Part 3: Last One Standing (Novice) The characters become embroiled in a three-way power struggle for control over their home town Isolon. Who will they help? Or will they just help themselves?

Next Week…

we’ll have a little information on an upcoming adventure from Baldman Games, The Sage of Cormanthor (ELMW1-1). As a brief teaser here’s the description of the adventure:

The grain has rotted in the town of Elmwood, which means people might starve, businesses and banks might fail, and endanger the town’s already-precarious existence. Brave adventurers are needed to travel through the wild forest to seek the advice of the Sage of Cormanthor.
A four-hour adventure for 5th – 10th level characters

For those curious about what new adventures are premiering at Winter Fantasy there are still spots open for the D&D Experience.  This shows D&D Experience has the second Hulburg trilogy (levels 5-10) and the second Phlan trilogy (levels 11-16) premiering at the show.

If you haven’t played the first of those trilogies you can pick them up here:

There’s also the Tier 4 premiere of Eye of Xxiphu Part 1 & 2 and the Tier 3 premiere of Reeducation Part 1 & 2 for you folks who have those high level Adventurer League characters.

Rob Schwalb’s Shadows of the Demon Lord has a number of events running at the show too. If you’re not familiar with Shadow of the Demon Lord, here’s the elevator pitch:

Enter a world on the brink of annihilation, its lands torn asunder by war, plague, and ancient horrors. Urth, the world of Shadow of the Demon Lord, is one of many imperiled by the shadowy menace lurking without and in this game you can play through its final days as embattled survivors fighting against what to many seems to be an inevitable end.

A lot of the events have sold out, but more are being added as the event approaches. If you’re on the fence about going, take a look at the registration page. If you’re interested in any of the games left, then sign up and we’ll see you at Winter Fantasy.

Calling All Authors!

Love GMing? We want to hear about it!

The Herald’s Guild of Dungeon Masters is starting to churn its engines again, and we’re looking for volunteers to help us stoke the fires.

As we rush toward Winter Fantasy and 2016, we want to start producing regular content for our members. Some of that content, like our seminars, will come from us; however, we’re just a tiny portion of the many knowledgeable and experienced DMs that make up the community.

So, we’re looking to you, our community, to write articles for the website. We’re accepting submissions for articles about convention and organized play Dungeon Mastering experiences. Of particular interest are:

  • Tips and tricks for the convention DM
  • Cool maps and other tools of the trade (pictures preferred!)
  • Horror stories that turned out for the best, or advice for a future Dungeon Master
  • How to handle cases where the realities of running a table sometimes bump against the rules of Organized Play

We’d like to offer our Dungeon Masters the opportunity to express themselves with a quick article on the Herald’s Guild website. We’re not looking for long or multi-part articles at this time, but if you have an idea you’d like to propose, please send your idea to questions@heraldsguild.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Winter Fantasy 2016 – Winter (Fantasy) is Coming!

With leaves falling off trees and everyone’s belly full of turkey, you don’t need us to tell you that winter is just around the corner. All is not lost, however, as with winter comes Winter Fantasy! This year’s show runs from February 3-7, 2016 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Registration opens in mid-December, so keep an eye on your inbox for your opportunity to be first in line to register!

Dungeons and Dragons at Winter Fantasy

Winter Fantasy continues to grow and offer more games, and we’re proud to be the best place to play Dungeons and Dragons Adventurers League content.
We will be hosting adventures in the entire 2nd half of Season 3: Rage of Demons. That’s everything from adventure DDEX3-8 to DDEX3-16 – including three world premiers:

  • 3-14: Death on the Wall
  • 3-15: Szith Morcane Unbound
  • 3-16: Assault on Maerimydra

Winter Fantasy is your chance to catch up on all the content before the season wraps up on March 15th.

Of course, we’ll also be there to scratch that Epic itch – with the premiere of the Epic adventure opening to Season 4. We can’t tell you what’s in store yet – but you can be among the very first to experience this exciting new campaign at our show in February!

The Dungeons and Dragons eXPerience

We gather much feedback on the VIP Program after GenCon, and Baldman Games has decided to change the program a bit.  We are retiring the VIP Program, and will be offering a new, similar experience we are calling “The D&D eXPerience.”

The D&D eXPerience is something new. Members of the D&D Experience will have their own members-only HQ for quick access to staff for questions, pre-printed paperwork (like character sheets and adventure logs), and more.

At Winter Fantasy we’ll also keep a selection of local restaurant menus on-hand, and will be assisting members with ordering food and arranging for simplified order delivery. While the system is still being planned, we’re hoping to make it as easy as writing up your order, delivering it with your payment to HQ, and letting them know what table you’re at. We will then place your order, receive it, and deliver it to your table for you – saving you valuable die-rolling time.

Of course, what DDXP members really want is a unique eXPerience. To that end we’ll be running semi-exclusive adventures, GMed by the D&D Adventure League admins. Only the admins can run these adventures, and at Winter Fantasy, they’ll only be running them for D&D eXPerience members!
